Best in Show is a series of photographs depicting the prize-winning poultry of the Smallholder and Garden Festival in mid-Wales, one of the leading poultry shows in the UK. Compelled by competition and showmanship, breeders cultivate nature into step with a quite particular set of ideals. Following their lead, these images are composed using the techniques employed by professional poultry photographers, displaying birds exemplary in their class, carefully groomed and modelling their species essence like calendar-girls.
